Mechanical Engineer

About this role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineer to join our team in Cork, Ireland. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing small mechanical systems, building up existing robotic systems, developing prototype systems, and contributing to the success of our company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing basic robotics platforms
  • CAD design and implementation of mechatronic systems and enclosures
  • Managing sub-suppliers
  • Product design / development / deployment
  • Assembling components and products
  • Redesigning and optimizing existing small mechanical / mechatronic systems
  • Specifying small mechanical systems and managing sub-contractors / supply-chain
  • Project management of small/medium projects
  • Working with customers and other team members
  • Developing prototypes for R&D projects
  • Operating 3D printer, laser cutter, etc.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering or relevant field.
  • Experience or graduate-level with practical ability and a can-do aptitude or apprentice with practical ability and a can-do aptitude.
  • Proficient in CAD design – preferably On-Shape or SolidWorks or similar and willing to learn other CAD packages.
  • Able to design systems for small or medium-scale manufacture.
  • An understanding of materials and material properties.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The flexibility to be able to learn new approaches to implementing mechanical and mechatronic systems.
  • Flexible and agile in being able to respond to customer-driven requirements.
  • Full driving license and able to travel abroad to customer sites/exhibitions/conferences.
The following would also be an advantage:
  • Experience in microfluidics or designing and fabricating actuators/basic robotics.
  • A basic understanding of machine vision/optics e.g. cameras/lenses/illumination/image processing.
  • An appreciation of a quality system (e.g. ISO 9001:2008 and ISO13485) and able to work to a quality system.
  • Familiarity with H2020 project execution.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, dynamic, have a good work ethic, be flexible in terms of assigned tasks, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
